This week I worked with a truly incredible leader and I want to take a moment to honour her and to honour all the leaders like her.
The client I’m talking of is a school leader, and for the past couple of weeks she has been trying to navigate and guide her team through the uncertainty that we are all experiencing.
Why do I think she’s incredible?
Because she is feeling vulnerable but she keeps showing up.
Brene Brown tells us that the definition of vulnerability is uncertainty, risk and emotional exposure.
The emotional exposure is the piece that really came through to me when working with my client. She is doing her very, very best and still the demons in her head are whispering to her: ‘Am I doing enough? Am I getting it right? Am I a good enough leader?’
Those are the stories she is telling herself. And I bet she’s not the only one. In fact, I know so many other humans are running the same shitty storylines. Can you relate?
Today I want to honour and appreciate all those who are feeling vulnerable. I want you to know that you are doing your very best.
Vulnerability sucks. It doesn’t feel great. But as the wonderful Brene tells us; we have to ‘embrace the suck’.
So yes, a lot sucks. But keep on showing up as the leader you want to be. Keep on doing your very best for yourself and others and that will be enough.
